How Does SpringMath Intensify Instruction

What makes a math intervention more intensive? In the early days of MTSS, the common answer was more of everything: more sessions, more minutes, more weeks. Working one-on-one was assumed to be more intensive than working with a small group. Dr. VanDerHeyden says much of that advice turned out to be wrong.

Replicated randomized controlled trials show that one adult working with two children is no more intensive than one adult working with five. As she puts it, that’s a silver lining, because it lets schools deliver intervention more efficiently. What matters more is dosage and the quality of the intervention itself, especially matching the teaching tactics to each student’s measured needs. She calls that “the magic sauce” of intensification. SpringMath builds all of this in, including weekly data collection, which is often the first sign that an intervention isn’t being carried out as planned.
