SpringMath Selected as an Evidence-Based Solution to Close Learning Gaps in Math in Mississippi and North Dakota

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, January 06, 2026 —SpringMath, the evidence-based multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) math solution developed by internationally recognized researcher Amanda VanDerHeyden, Ph.D., has been selected as an approved mathematics solution by the Mississippi and North Dakota Departments of Education. These selections reflect each state’s commitment to research-backed programs that accelerate student learning and support educators in delivering effective math instruction.

In Mississippi, SpringMath was approved for Tier 2 and Tier 3 math intervention, meeting the state’s rigorous evidence requirements under State Board Policy 411. Mississippi’s evaluation prioritizes programs with a strong research base, demonstrated accuracy in identifying student needs, and proven effectiveness in supporting students with skill gaps. SpringMath’s top ratings from the National Center for Intensive Intervention (NCII) and its decade of peer-reviewed research contributed to its selection.

“We are honored to be chosen as a trusted solution for Mississippi schools,” said Terri Soutor, CEO of SpringMath Accelerate, Inc. “SpringMath is designed to give teachers clarity about which skills their students need to master and the confidence to deliver targeted daily instruction to help students acquire the skills necessary to progress in their math learning. We look forward to supporting Mississippi educators as they work to strengthen math achievement statewide.”

In North Dakota, SpringMath was selected for the ND COUNTS Screening & Intervention Pilot and approved statewide for grades 4–8 mathematics screening and intervention. While the pilot provides $300,000 in funding to select schools for program training and implementation, any North Dakota district may adopt SpringMath for screening, progress monitoring, and classwide and individual intervention to strengthen student achievement in mathematics.

SpringMath is the only comprehensive K–12 math MTSS solution available. The SpringMath approach is grounded in the science of how people learn and differentiates itself by addressing classwide risk in order to reduce the number of students in need of more intensive and costly Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions. Best-in-class assessments, as rated by NCII, that utilize mastery measures rather than general outcome measures provide a real-time picture of whether or not students are on track for short- and long-term math success. Assessment results power fully scripted, precisely targeted daily classwide and individual intervention plans. Interventions are adjusted weekly based on the previous week’s outcomes to move students to mastery faster.

“North Dakota and Mississippi are demonstrating exceptional leadership by choosing a solution grounded in research, and that reduces widespread math risk,” said Amanda VanDerHeyden, Ph.D., creator of SpringMath. “I developed SpringMath because nothing else on the market gave teachers a data-driven process they can use every day for just 15 minutes to ensure every student develops the critical skills needed to be algebra-ready by eighth grade.”

Adoption of SpringMath has grown tremendously in districts across the U.S. and Canada over the past five years due to its impressive track record of improving math achievement. Students reached mastery in SpringMath over a million times in the 2024–25 school year, and in randomized controlled trials, children using SpringMath have half the risk of failing year-end state tests compared to children not receiving SpringMath.
